Local Education Authorities (LEAs) sometimes have problems in fulfilling their statutory duties to raise standards through effective challenge and support for schools. In many cases these are a direct result of a lack of leadership and management capacity within schools.

Cocentra is committed to finding innovative and effective ways in which LEAs and schools can be supported to meet this challenge. Support packages are assembled against a number of clear aims and principles.

Cocentra’s approach

All Cocentra support packages seek to:

• Bring additional management expertise and capacity to the senior and middle leadership at the “receiving” school
• Ensure that the resources available from the LEA and all other sources is efficiently and effectively integrated to provide a coherent support package.

Cocentra believes that all support packages should:

• Be delivered by senior managers who have experience of working in a similar context
• Be delivered through the coordinated action of a team rather than through the ‘parachuting in’ of an individual
• Be delivered by a support team that, as far as possible, are current practitioners who are working in a similar context
• Provide stability for the “receiving” school, but do not damage the “donor” school that is providing the support from its senior or middle leadership team.
