A number of LEAs are currently piloting the single conversation with schools, as announced by David Miliband, the Schools Standards Minister, at the North of England Conference.

Whilst much of the expected content of the single conversation will do no more than reinforce existing good practice that occurs in many LEAs we believe that it is already clear that there will be significant implications for all LEAs. In particular, it may well mean that some existing LEA advisers have to have their duties realigned in response to the possibility that only experienced headteachers can undertake the conversation. And it will often mean the need to build new support systems and develop skills in those with strong experience of headship but less experience of working with other institutions in an advisory or target setting capacity.

Cocentra will develop mechanisms to support LEAs with the single conversation as the lessons of the pilots become clear. However, it is already in a position to support through:
