Inclusion Learning Clusters

The current Ofsted Framework identifies that the success of a school is most strongly reflected in pupil achievement, which is determined by three factors. These are:

  • Quality and effectiveness of teaching
  • Effectiveness of leadership and management
  • Commitment of the school to inclusion.

Cocentra offers support that:

  • Helps reconcile the tensions that exist between the standards agenda and the drive for inclusion
  • Is delivered within a framework of collaboration between schools
  • Provides continuing professional development which reflects and builds on existing self-review and evaluation processes
  • Is flexible in the way it meets the school’s identified needs
  • Gives the school clear, achievable, action focused plans for implementation
  • Is designed to constantly reinforce effective delivery of school action plans
  • Shares developments, and identifies best practice.

Cocentra facilitates the coming together of a number of schools into a “Learning Clusters”. This includes existing collaborations, such as LIG or EAZ, and other inter-LEA groupings.

Over a school year Cocentra run a series of training days to which member schools can send up to 2 staff. The content and shape of the days are agreed with the schools at the outset based on a brief gap analysis.

Usually each training day will be structured to include:

  • Two interactive sessions designed to meet pre-identified needs
  • A discussion forum where good practice can be shared
  • A session producing an implementation plan for each school
  • Opportunities for 1:1 confidential discussion.

During the course of the year these training days are reinforced by:

  • A named Cocentra adviser, with experience of Inclusion issues, who will coordinate and liase with the group of schools
  • A termly Inclusion Newsletter containing current issues and examples of best practice
  • An e-mail help line
  • Access to the wider resources of Cocentra to provide additional support in the delivery of the schools inclusion agenda.
