Budgets are tight and the demands to understand new and changing issues affecting education are increasing. There is a need for every teacher, Head Teacher, governor and advisor to seek to understand the spectrum of specialisms and initiatives, and most importantly how they fit together and might be implemented.

Cocentra’s approach

Cocentra is addressing this issue through a number of course programmes known as Learning Clusters. These clusters are structured to allow small groups of individuals from schools and LEAs (often more then one from each organisation and not necessarily the same person each time) to:

• Gather together once every half term to receive two or three structured sessions on identified themes, tailored to the subject of the programme and the needs of the group
• As part of these meetings there will also be plenary sessions to discuss and debate particular points of interest and opportunities for one to one discussion with experts
• Reinforce in each meeting the previous learning and action plans
• Receive further support through a twice-termly newsletter and an e-mail helpline
• Access further support if desired by the delegates
• Save costs by grouping a series of courses together and in a larger group – this can be much more cost effective and structured than ad hoc course attendance
